André Onana : «J’ai beaucoup de choses à dire…»

Pour son entrée dans la compétition lundi 15 janvier 2024 à Yamoussoukro, l’équipe nationale du Cameroun a eu de grosses frayeurs, tenue en échec (1-1) par des Guinéens décomplexés et réduits à 10 contre 11. Mais un homme s’est une fois de plus attiré les projecteurs, après la contre-performance des Lions Indomptables qui a laissé un goût amer chez les Camerounais. En effet, très critiqué pour ce que d’aucuns estiment être «son choix» incompréhensible de «privilégier» son club Manchester United avec lequel il a disputé un match dimanche contre Tottenham (2-2) en Première Ligue anglaise avant de sauter dans un jet privé la nuit pour rejoindre les Lions sur le tard, le portier camerounais André Onana a réagi au micro de Canal+. «J’ai beaucoup de choses à dire mais je ne le dirai pas ici car nous sommes en compétition. Le plus important, c’est l’union sacrée. On est ici pour gagner la CAN. Je demande aux supporters de nous soutenir dans les bons et mauvais moments», a-t-il déclaré.
Sur sa situation personnelle, le gardien des Red Devils a préféré mettre en avant son attachement pour son pays. «Je fais partie des leaders donc je prends mes responsabilités et c’est pour ça que je suis là. Je ne veux pas qu’on critique les plus jeunes. Qu’on continue de me critiquer, je suis habitué, je fais ce qui est bien pour mon pays. C’est comme choisir entre mon père et ma mère, mais mon pays passe avant tout, c’est pour ça que je suis là». Sera-t-il titulaire au prochain match du Cameroun ? Interrogé sur NewWorld TV, André Onana a fait savoir qu’il était là «pour représenter mon pays, mon continent. C’est un honneur énorme pour moi d’être ici avec mon pays. Il y a 40 ans, nos aînés avaient fait quelque chose d’exceptionnel ici. Venir représenter ce beau pays c’est le plus important. Concernant mon temps de jeu, c’est le coach qui décidera. On est là pour gagner peu importe qui joue. On a de très bons gardiens».
La prochaine sortie des Lions Indomptables sera très scrutée le 18 janvier prochain, contre le Sénégal, toujours à Yamoussoukro.
