CAMEROUN : LE GOUVERNEMENT VISE 40 TONNES DE POMME DE TERRE PAR AN
500 personnes ont été formées le 4 août 2023 pour booster la production de cette denrée alimentaire.

Faire passer la production de la pomme de terre de 15 à 40 tonnes dans la région de l’Ouest, soit 30 tubercules par pied contre 10 actuellement. C’est l’objectif de la formation organisée le 04 août 2023 par le secrétaire général adjoint des services du Premier ministre, Pascal Nguihé.
Les 500 participants qui ont pris part à cette formation ont été outillés sur la production des semences améliorées de pommes de terre à partir des boutures apicales racinées et des mini-tubercules. Ils ont également été formés sur la méthodologie théorique et les applications pratiques de mise en place, traitement, récolte et conservation de ces semences améliorées.
La Boutures apicales enracinées (Bar) sur laquelle les apprenants ont été formés, est une technique indienne que le Cameroun expérimente, avec le concours des gouvernements indien et allemand. La production annuelle de la pomme de terre au Cameroun oscille entre 220 000 et 400 000 tonnes depuis 10 ans, en fonction de la clémence du climat. Cette production nationale est largement en dessous de la demande, qui atteint souvent 1 million de tonnes par an. Selon les données fournies par le Projet centre d’innovations vertes pour le secteur agroalimentaire (GIZ-Procisa), les régions de l’Ouest et du Nord-Ouest concentrent 80% de la production annuelle de la pomme de terre au Cameroun. Dans la région de l’Ouest par exemple, sur un besoin de production fixé à 60% de cette production, soit 200 000 tonnes, le quotidien gouvernemental Cameroon Tribune du lundi 7 août 2023 informe que la récolte était de 140 000 tonnes réalisées sur une superficie de 12 000 hectares.
Pour mémoire, la stratégie nationale actualisée – d’un montant de plus de 40 milliards FCFA – pour le développement de la filière pomme de terre au Cameroun a été validée le 7 mars 2023 à Yaoundé, au cours d’un atelier présidé par le ministre de l’Agriculture et du développement rural, Gabriel
Mbaïrobe. Sur l’enveloppe de 40 milliards F CFA, le Cameroun compte injecter 60% dans l’investissement et 40% pour divers soutiens aux producteurs. Une stratégie qui s’articule autour de la productivité, l’amélioration de la transformation, le stockage et la commercialisation, en, plus du renforcement des capacités des acteurs de la filière.
