Le nouveau quai polyvalent du terminal à bois est opérationnel

De l’avis du constructeur français, Jean Negri & Fils, adjudicataire du marché, le nouveau quai polyvalent du terminal à bois inauguré par le patron des Transports est très en phase avec les infrastructures similaires dans le monde. L’ancien quai, littéralement détruit pour les travaux, était vieux d’une cinquantaine d’années et inapte à servir selon les standards modernes. D’où la décision de la direction générale du Port autonome de Douala-Bonaberi (Pad)) de financer, sur fonds propres, le projet de reconstruction de ce quai pour un montant d’un peu plus de 10 milliards de F CFA. Ce qui a abouti à une modernisation totale de cette plateforme d’échanges commerciaux avec l’extérieur. Les données officielles dévoilent que le quai vétuste faisait environ 150 mètres linéaires, comportait une poutre de couronnement de 2,50 m de haut, un rideau de palplanches de type PU tiré sur un contre-rideau.
227 mètres de long, 24 mois de travaux
Le nouveau quai polyvalent a été agrandi. Sa longueur est de 227 mètres pour une largeur de 24 mètres. Avec un tirant d’eau de 5 m, indique-t-on, cet important chantier a nécessité 1200 tonnes d’acier qui ont été importées. La surface totale aménagée est de 5500 m², tandis que 1500 m3 de béton ont été mis en place. 200 tonnes d’acier local ont été utilisés pour le ferraillage des poutres et dalles. 22000 m3 de sédiments ont été dragués. Les travaux, expliquent le constructeur, ont duré 24 mois y compris les sondages et les études, malgré les blocages inhérents aux mesures sanitaires en période Covid-19.
Construit pour une durée de vie de 50 ans, le nouveau quai polyvalent a coûté 10,720 milliards de F CFA. «Je remercie le gouvernement camerounais, le directeur général du port autonome de Douala qui ont fait confiance à la société Negri pour l’exécution de ce chantier. Nous sommes dans un environnement où on voit des chantiers qui débutent et qui ne s’achèvent pas. On peut se satisfaire de voir que Negri, qui est sur son troisième chantier sur le port de Douala ; et on peut constater que depuis la mise en service de ce terminal, il n’y a jamais eu de problème donc, il faut reconnaitre que c’est un exploit technique que nous avons réalisé. Nous sommes venus réaliser ce terminal à bois qui est si important pour la rentrée des devises. Si ce terminal avait été en arrêt, le Cameroun aurait perdu une grande partie d’entrée de ses devises. C’était un challenge assez important pour nous», se réjouit Raphaël Abouem Halde, directeur commercial Afrique de Jean Négri & Fils. Une satisfaction davantage justifiée car, le nouvel ouvrage est à usage multidimensionnel. Il vise à accueillir non seulement les barges, mais aussi des navires tels que les Supply et bien d’autres ayant un tirant d’eau pouvant atteindre 5 m. «Il peut non seulement servir à recevoir des barges mais également tous les navires ayant un tirant d’eau de 5m notamment les navires Supply pour approvisionner les plateformes pétrolières offshore, si l’activité du bois venait à être délocalisée ou à s’arrêter», souligne le directeur commercial Afrique de Jean Négri & Fils. Un ouf de soulagement pour les entrepreneurs de la place portuaire et le Cameroun.
