CAMEROUN-GABON : LE FORMOL S’INVITE DANS LA RELATION
Les deux pays voisins de l’Afrique centrale s’inquiètent de l’utilisation de ce produit chimique impropre à la consommation pour faire mûrir certains fruits par des commerçants véreux et promettent des mesures drastiques.

L’Agence gabonaise de sécurité alimentaire (Agasa) dirigée par Alia Mahéva Bongo Ondimba a publié un communiqué le 25 juillet 2023, pour rassurer les Gabonais sur l’utilisation du formol dans le mûrissement et la conservation des produits de grande consommation venus du Cameroun, tels que la banane-plantain, l’ananas, les tomates, les oranges, les avocats, les pastèques etc. Cette sonnette d’alarme du régulateur gabonais fait suite aux informations en provenance du Cameroun, pays voisin dont le Gabon est très dépendant des produits alimentaires. En effet, le 11 juillet dernier, Max Mbella Edjenguele, le sous-préfet de la ville de Dschang, chef-lieu du département de la Menoua, région de l’Ouest, mettait en garde les commerçants véreux sur l’usage du formol pour faire mûrir des produits destinés à la commercialisation et la consommation. L’autorité qui a eu vent de cette pratique via ses propres canaux de renseignement dans sa localité avait également souligné que des descentes inopinées seront effectuées dans les marchés de Dschang. Chose faite le 21 juillet 2023.

Aucun commerçant n’a été interpellé lors de cette descente du sous-préfet, ni de marchandise saisie, mais le Gabon préfère rester prudent, même si la région de l’Ouest Cameroun est plus proche du Nigéria et très éloignée des zones d’approvisionnement gabonaises situées notamment dans la localité de Aban-Minkoo au Sud. «Dans un souci de prévention et de précaution, l’Agasa renforcera son dispositif de contrôle et de veille sanitaire aux frontières. A cet effet, un plan de surveillance sera mis en place via la recherche du formol par l’utilisation des kits de détection rapide», informe le régulateur. Et d’ajouter qu’au niveau de la frontière avec le Cameroun, «tout résultat positif à la présence du formol conditionnera le refoulement des produits». La même opération sera réalisée dans les marchés de Libreville, et «les produits dangereux détectés dans les locaux d’entreposage ou sur les étals seront détruits», prévient la directrice générale de l’Agasa, Alia Mahéva Bongo Ondimba.
