AU CAMEROUN, KIKOT HYDRO POWER COMPANY VA PILOTER LE PROJET D’AMÉNAGEMENT DU BARRAGE HYDROÉLECTRIQUE DE KIKOT
La création de cette entreprise avec pour seuls actionnaires Electricité de France (EDF) et l’Etat du Cameroun, est une nouvelle avancée dans ce projet dont le coût d’investissement est estimé à environ 650 milliards de FCFA.

Kikot Hydro Power Company (KHPC) est la structure qui sera chargée de la construction et l’exploitation de la Centrale hydroélectrique de Kikot d’une capacité de production 450 MW, extensible à 550 MW. Selon des informations parvenues à L’Urgence, une assemblée générale de KHPC se tiendra le 25 septembre 2023 à Yaoundé.

Alors que le closing financier du projet Kikot est annoncé pour l’année 2024, le démarrage des travaux sur le terrain en 2025 et la mise en service en 2030, l’Etat du Cameroun et son partenaire EDF entendent intéresser la Banque mondiale. «Le ministère de l’Economie a […] marqué sa disponibilité à travailler de concert avec les équipes d’ EDF pour intéresser le groupe de la Banque mondiale, et plus spécifiquement la Société financière internationale (SFI ou IFC en anglais), dans la perspective du closing financier du projet », avait indiqué ce département ministériel le 27 septembre 2022 à Yaoundé, au sortir d’une rencontre entre le ministre de l’Économie, de la Planification et de l’Aménagement du Territoire (Minepat), Alamine Ousmane Mey, la directrice Afrique, Moyen-Orient et Méditerranée orientale d’EDF, Valérie Levkov, et la directrice générale d’EDF Cameroun, Marlène Biessy.
EDF a signé le 25 juin 2021 un accord de développement avec le Gouvernement du Cameroun pour un deuxième grand projet hydroélectrique, le projet Kikot. Les deux partenaires codéveloppent le projet. Le site, situé à 60 km au Nord-Ouest de Yaoundé sur le fleuve Sanaga, se trouve à la frontière entre les régions du Centre et du Littoral.
Le projet prévoit un barrage et sa retenue d’eau, ainsi qu’une usine hydroélectrique. Celle-ci, d’une puissance comprise entre 450 et 550 MW, sera alors la plus puissante du Cameroun. Le planning envisagé est ambitieux, et vise un début de construction en 2025 pour une mise en service en 2030. Dans le cadre de la réalisation de l’Avant-Projet Sommaire (APS), des études environnementales, sociétales et techniques sont en cours. «Elles permettront de concevoir un projet durable et efficient, respectueux de l’environnement et des populations », indique EDF.
